Police in Lower Moreland Township were dispatched to a home on the 2300 block of Philmont Avenue for a reported domestic disturbance just before 6 a.m. on July 24, officials said.

There, officers found 30-year-old Rui Miguel Matos, shouting at a woman inside the house, they said.

"It was clear Matos was under the influence of a controlled substance," police wrote. "He had been up for five days, was sweating, was unkempt, talking quickly, and his story was not making sense."

The woman in the home identified herself as Matos' girlfriend, and said the 30-year-old took her phone away and pushed her against a wall, leaving bruises, authorities said.

She also told investigators Matos had guns in the house. Police said they recovered a Smith and Wesson AR pistol loaded with .22 long rifle rounds from the home and a second magazine nearby.

They also searched his backpack and found a small amount of marijuana, police wrote.

Matos is charged for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and for marijuana possession, officials said. State court records show he posted $35,000 bail in August and is due back in court on Dec. 20.
